original post about DA

Come join us at the 2006 Central Midwest District Assembly! Your presence will help make it our largest and best ever! Hundreds of UU’s from all over the Midwest will gather in Madison, WI for three days of worship, fellowship, and fun.

Our theme this year is TAKING OUR COUNTRY BACK FROM THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT. We are privileged to welcome Rabbi Michael Lerner, founder of the TIKKUN Community and the TIKKUN Journal, as our keynote speaker. He has a new book out, The Left Hand of God: Taking Our Country Back from the Religious Right, on which his keynote address is based. Rabbi Lerner is a highly respected religious leader who consults with political leaders and social justice leaders across the country.

If that alone is not enough to bring you to District Assembly, consider the following: our exciting Opening Celebration comes with combined choirs and a banner parade. There is a choice of thirty workshops on topics such as improving your congregation, social action, faith development, worship, music, growth, and much more. There will be a delicious banquet and fun and fabulous entertainment by the Perfect Harmony Men’s Chorus. We will come together Sunday morning for combined worship. All of this with Unitarian Universalist friends, old and new, from across our Central Midwest District.

Student and Young Adult Registrations: For a reduced fee of $35, fulltime students or young adults may register.

Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available to this year’s District Assembly. To apply, please send a letter with your completed registration form, stating your need, to the CMwD at the above address. Please consider making a donation to our scholarship fund to support Young Adult full participation in the District Assembly. Donations are gratefully accepted. Send your check made out to the Central Midwest District to the above address, and write “District Assembly Scholarships” on the note line of the check.

Volunteer Opportunities [& a paid one] for District Assembly

Deadline in TWO DAYS. Sorry bout the short notice. First I'd heard about this was seven minutes ago.

Hi all (please advertise to your respective congregations),

You can get a 25% reduction in the registration fee for the CMwD District Assembly in Apr il if you volunteer for 2 hours. I have listed the jobs below.

To sign up at the discounted rate you can reach the conference registration through either of these links. There is a place on the form where you indicate you want to volunteer.

use http://www.cmwd-uua.org [scroll down a ways for the link] or use http://www.regonline.com/Checkin.asp?EventId=89851

Another alternative is to volunteer 2 hours, pay no fee, and just hear Rabbi Lerner (if you don't want to go to any of the other DA activities). If you would like to use this alternative do not use the registration process, instead contact Gretchen Ohmann at communications@cmwd-uua.org.

Deadline for all cheap registration alternatives is March 30.

There is also an immediate need for someone to put together the children's programming for Saturday. This job has a "small stipend" (I don't know how big). This person doesn't necessarily have to do the programming on Saturday. We are getting volunteers to do that.

If you are willing to put together the children's program on Saturday contact Dori Davenport at DoriDuure@aol.com.

There is no place to indicate a volunteer job preference on the registration form. We will contact you later.

See you at DA
Warmly
Judy
